Our pediatric ward has many beds. Some are twin sized and others are smaller. Despite our lack of resources in other areas, patients and their families usually have access to a cozy mattress.
However, when I walk into the ward at night or on Sunday, all of the beds are empty! Patients, even the sick ones, sleep with their families on the cement floor.
I often ask, “What the heck are you doing on the floor?”
Invariably, they smile at me and just say either they can’t sleep in the bed or they like the floor better.
