A needed change

Today a six week premature baby became very sick and started bleeding from her intestines. Soon after she stopped breathing normally and her oxygen levels plummeted. We gave her artificial breaths for greater than 12 hours but she continued to progress toward death.

My level of frustration hit a new high. In Saipan we had the capacity to save this child’s life, but here we had nothing to do for her. Just watch her slowly die.

I want to continue working in the developing world but I need more resources to help keep these kids alive. Without the basics, the stress reaches unbearable levels.
