Happy Easter

It was a nice day in the hospital. Our ICU is relatively empty but our general pediatric ward is filled to the maximum capacity.

The best part of the day was surprising our sickest patient, a 7 year-old girl, with an unexpected discharge. She had been hoping to participate in an Easter Egg hunt and was extremely depressed that she was not going to attend. I spoke with her father and we decided it was best to get her out of the hospital for a little fun.

As she walked out the hospital door, she was a happy, exuberant child. No medicine could have placed a smile like that on her face.

It is possible that she will return more ill in a few hours, but it is worth the chance.
