We left the US today and are currently in Tokyo, Japan awaiting our next flight. Surprisingly, the atmosphere in the airport is not as solemn as I had expected. The locals are very friendly, smiling as they usually do and not one person has broached the subject of the earthquake or tsunami. People are going about their workday as usual. I have a feeling that if I left the isolated, sterile environment of the airport things would be different.
In a few hours, we will board a four hour flight to Saipan. I am looking forward to seeing what the island and, in particular, the medical system has to offer.
