I am often amazed at how well extremely sick patients do in such resource limited environments. Over the past few weeks, we had two patients present with fever and coma (GCS 3). You could produce the most painful stimuli and neither would react.
To my surprise, everyday each patient got a bit better. Currently, one continues to have right sided weakness but is talking and moving well, and the other is on his way to a full recovery.
I guessed neither would survive. Once again, I incorrectly predicted an adverse outcome.
