Acronym smack down

When I studied public health, I learned a few important abbreviations. Among others, I became very familiar with the terms WHO, WFP, MSF and UNICEF. However, things in the field are a bit different. I often hear a conversation of complete shorthand.

“So, I was thinking that UNHCR will partner with NRC and we will continue to focus our efforts on the BPHS, especially focusing on ANC, FP, EPI, IMCI. They will ME, specifically on CMR and OC.”

Well if you didn’t understand that, they said:

“So, I was thinking that the United Nation High Commission for Refugees will partner with the Norwegian Refugee Council and we will continue to focus our efforts on the basic package of health services, especially focusing on antenatal care, family planning, the expanded program on Immunization and integrated management of childhood illnesses. They will monitor and evaluate, specifically on child mortality rate and obstetric complications.”
